SUMMARY:Sports Law: College Athletics\, COVID-19\, Athlete Rights
DESCRIPTION:Like the rest of the world\, college athletics has been impacted by COVID-19. While some conferences have canceled seasons for the fall semester\, others are moving forward with games the best they can. Playing college sports during a pandemic\, on campuses where most students are studying remotely\, raises clear questions about student-athlete rights and safety. Make no mistake about it\, college athletics brings in lots of money\, and economic considerations are being made and weighed against the health and safety risks associated with competition. \nHow are the NCAA and its member institutions handling the pandemic while balancing economic considerations? Will college athletics look differently following the pandemic\, and how will Name\, Image and Likeness (“NIL”) fit into the picture? \nPlease join UNC School of Law and the Law Alumni Association to explore these questions and more. Special guests for the evening include: \n\nProfessor Lissa Broome\, Burton Craige Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Banking and Finance\nProfessor Barbara Osborne\, Sport Administration and Law/Sport Administration Dual Degree Coordinator.\n\nPanelists will lead a discussion on sports law\, offering their input and answering questions from attendees. \n
