SUMMARY:Closing the Wealth Gap Conference
DESCRIPTION:The most important economic challenge of our time is the large\, and growing\, wealth gap. Increasing income disparities and declining opportunities have diminished America’s middle class. \nFeatured speakers for this event include Amy Goldstein (Washington Post journalist and author of Janesville: An American Story)\, Sandra Moore (Chief Impact Officer\, Advantage Capital)\, Winslow Sargeant (former SBA Chief Counsel for Advocacy). \nThis event is the culmination of a 3-part series in which thought leaders present to local elected officials\, academic researchers\, students\, and community members on the ever-increasing wealth gap of the United States\, and its ramifications for U.S. prosperity. The conference will cover a range of topics\, including consequences of wealth inequities in America\, the role of investors and financial institutions in closing the wealth gap\, practices of other countries with lower disparities\, and place-based solutions to addressing this issue. \nThis conference is an interdisciplinary forum hosted by CREATE\, an economic development research center at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise\, the Institute for Innovation at the UNC School of Law\, and Kenan-Flagler Business School’s Alliance of Minority Business Students. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
