UNC School of Law proudly announces that Kerri-Ann Rowe, clinical associate professor of law and reference librarian, has received the 2025 Black Law Librarians Special Interest Section (BLL-SIS) Emerging Leader Award.

This national honor recognizes early-career librarians who have made meaningful contributions to law librarianship and show great promise for future leadership.

Since joining Carolina Law in 2021, Rowe has become a key figure in student services, welcoming nearly 200 incoming students with orientation tours, maintaining the North Carolina bar prep LibGuide, and leading workshop series each semester. She also serves as liaison to the “North Carolina Law Review” and coordinates summer research assistant training. The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library recently honored her outstanding contributions with the Kathrine R. Everett Award of Merit.

“Kerri has already shown a strong commitment to law librarianship,” wrote Nicole Downing, assistant director for public services, in her letter supporting Rowe’s nomination. “Her ongoing projects, leadership roles, and writing make it clear that she will continue to shape and strengthen the profession for years to come.”

A BLL-SIS member since its 2020 founding, Rowe has served on multiple committees, including Community Service and Programming & Education, and she moderated the program Life on the Beach at the 2023 AALL Annual Meeting. Her scholarly contributions include an article on inclusive terminology for LRSQ, and she’s currently writing a chapter on using games in legal education while preparing to moderate a teaching program on knowledge transfer at the upcoming AALL Annual Meeting.

Rowe will receive her award at the AALL Annual Meeting this summer, where the law library community will celebrate her exceptional contributions and bright future in the profession.

Carolina Law congratulates Kerri-Ann on this well-deserved recognition.
