The Career Development Office provides over 80 programs per year including Career Night, the Legal Careers Pathways Conference, and Meet the Tar Heels. We also provide a variety of online resources to assist students in their search for meaningful summer and permanent employment.

Career Development Curriculum
Our CDO Curriculum is designed to help students take the right steps at the right time and provide helpful resources along the way. With a month-by-month structure, the CDO Curriculum is an online course that keeps you on track throughout your time at Carolina Law as you seek summer internships and post-graduation permanent employment.
Career Development Handbook
A comprehensive guide to your legal job search used by students throughout their time at Carolina Law and beyond.
First-Year Resume Reviews
The CDO provides access to VMock, an AI resume review platform, and one-on-one resume review sessions with a counselor in your first semester.
Mentor Database
The CDO’s Mentor Database helps students looking to connect with someone interested in their success. The database can be searched by students based on mentor employment history, practice areas, and demographic information.
SIGNATURE EVENTS
Career Night
A virtual event held in October that allows students to explore more than 30 practice areas in small group discussions with attorneys from around the country. The attorneys represent a wide range of practice settings – public interest, private practice, government, and in-house. Sponsorship opportunities available.
CDO Employer Spotlight
The CDO coordinates a morning coffee hour and lunchtime information session with boxed lunches sponsored by employers who recruit our students.
Legal Pathways Conference
An in-person career conference and reception held in the fall, this event is focused on exposing first-year students to the various practice settings in which they can pursue a fulfilling career in the law. Previous panels have included Alternative Careers, Government, In-House Legal Departments, Judicial Clerkships, Private Practice, Public Defenders & Prosecutors, and Public Interest.
Meet The Tar Heels
The Meet the Tar Heels Receptions are designed to give employers from across the country and in all practice settings an opportunity to engage with our students. The event is held twice a year in the fall and winter. Resume books tailored tothe employers participating will be provided.
Fall Meet the Tar Heels
- An in-person event for employers with our first-year students held in November. Mandatory for the 1L class.
Winter Meet the Tar Heels
- A virtual event held after finals in December for employers to engage with all class years featuring one-on-one discussions. Employers specify the class year(s) they want to meet
Mock Interview Program
Our Mock Interview Program allows alumni from across the country to provide valuable feedback to current students on how best to present themselves during an interview.
STUDENT FESTIVAL OF LEGAL LEARNING
The Student Festival of Legal Learning is an in-person professional development program and reception that targets first-year students. It is offered in the early spring in conjunction with our annual Festival of Legal Learning for alumni. View the past year’s program here.
