Carolina Law Advocacy Programs Claim Back-to-Back National Championships

March 30, 2026

UNC School of Law students are on a historic run. On back-to-back competition weekends, two Carolina Law teams claimed national championships in advocacy competitions, adding to an already impressive season.

3Ls Becca Feldman, Fikemi Fawehinmi, and Mary Kwon won the ABA Client Counseling Competition national title in Chicago. Around 86 teams competed in regional rounds for a spot at nationals, and only 12 made the cut. Once there, Becca, Fikemi, and Mary completed five client interviews and submitted a client memo to beat finalists from Stetson University and Creighton University.

“I am so happy for Mary, Fikemi, and Becca! They worked so hard in preparing for the regional and national competition. This ABA national championship is a testament to their effective teamwork and commitment to developing strong interviewing and counseling skills. It has been an absolute pleasure serving as their coach,” said O.J. Salinas, director of the Academic Excellence Program and clinical professor of law.

As national champions, Feldman, Fawehinmi, and Kwon will now represent the United States at the Brown Mosten International Client Consultation Competition in Zagreb, Croatia, April 15-18.

The weekend before, 2Ls Sarah Carver and Madeline Pool took home the title at the UC Law SF Constitutional Law Invitational Moot Court Competition. The pair competed in five rounds representing both petitioner and respondent, impressing judges with their conversational tone and mastery of the record. Carver also earned Best Oralist in the final round.

“Our experience at the UC Law Competition was an invaluable growth opportunity and chance to test our skills as developing lawyers. I’m so grateful for the opportunity Moot Court has provided for me to push myself outside of my comfort zone and learn from my peers and the faculty at UNC in the process,” said Sarah Carver, a second-year student at Carolina Law.
