Reciprocity Policy

  • Reciprocity is limited to third-year students and graduates seeking permanent employment in North Carolina.
  • Services are available to those ABA accredited law schools outside of North Carolina which permit University of North Carolina School of Law students and/or alumni similar access to their career development facilities and resources. Services will not be provided if the third-year student or graduate has a current reciprocal agreement from any other law school in North Carolina.
  • Reciprocal services are extended for a period of three months to each individual, on a one-person-at-a-time basis with the requesting school. Any new requests for reciprocity from third-year students or alumni from the requesting school must wait until the current grantee’s term has concluded. Due to the demands of the fall semester, requests for reciprocity will be denied between August 1 and December 1.
  • Requests for services must be made in advance, by completing this form.
  • Reciprocal services include the following:
    1. Access to general career and employer information in the CDO Resources Suite
    2. Password for internet access to employment listings in our Job Bank located in Symplicity, which is updated daily. There is a one-time charge of $30 to obtain a password. Make the check payable to UNC School of Law and send it to the Career Development Office. Please include your email address when you mail your check so that the password and instructions about access can be emailed to you.
  • Reciprocal services exclude the following:
    1. On- and off-campus interviews with prospective employers; including all job fairs and resume collections posted on Symplicity
    2. Counseling appointments with the CDO staff
    3. Resume and cover letter review
  • The student or graduate must state in his or her cover letter to any employer that the job listing was received from this office through a reciprocal agreement between the student or graduate’s school and the UNC Career Development Office. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of reciprocity privileges.
  • The Assistant Dean has the discretion to review each request independently and make a decision to grant or deny services of the office based on the demands of Carolina Law students and/or alumni on the Career Development Office.
  • The Assistant Dean may deny further service to individuals who misuse the facilities or service.

Please make all reciprocity requests through this form.
