Calendar Year-End Giving
UNC School of Law will be closed Wednesday, December 24, 2025 through Monday, December 29, 2025. To ensure that your gift will be processed to meet IRS tax-year deadlines, please see additional details below:
Online gifts
Make your credit card gift online by 11:59 p.m. in the time zone in which gift is made on December 31 to ensure charitable tax year credit for 2025. The University accepts AMEX, Discover, MasterCard, and VISA. You can also donate on your mobile device via ApplePay or Visa Checkout.
Gifts by check
Gifts by check (payable to “UNC School of Law”) must be postmarked on or by December 31, 2025 for 2025 tax credit purposes. Indicate on the memo line for which School of Law fund your gift is designated (Law Annual Fund or law fund of choice) and mail it to:

The USPS has changed the way postmarked mail is handled. Effective Dec. 24, machine postmarks will be applied at regional processing centers, not the local drop-off point. As a result, the date of the machine postmark can be several days later than when a piece of mail was handed over to the USPS. To ensure delivery of a gift for the 2025 tax year, please consider mailing a check on or before Dec. 24, 2025.
Gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)
Qualifying IRA Rollover contributions (IRA Rollovers) or gifts made from your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) can be made directly from your IRA Administrator with the same receipt requirements as checks (postmarked on or by Dec. 31, 2025). However, if you write a check from an IRA checkbook or other retirement account that you control, IRS requirements dictate these checks must be debited from your account on or before Dec. 31, 2025. To ensure checks written from an IRA checkbook clear your account in the 2025 tax year, they should be received by the Office of Gift Planning by Friday, December 19, 2025. Gifts by phone
To make a gift by phone, call 919-537-3818 before 4 p.m. E.S.T., Dec. 31, 2025. Please have your credit card number, expiration date, and daytime phone number ready when you call. To ensure the security of your information as well as the timely processing of your gift, please do not leave your credit card information on a voicemail. After 4 p.m., please make your gift online to receive 2025 tax year credit.
Gifts of Stock
Gifts of stock can be made into our Wells Fargo Advisors brokerage account by electronic transfer. Shares must be transferred into the account before 3:30 p.m. E.S.T. on Dec. 31, 2025. Please call 919-962-8189 or 919-962-3047 for more information and see here for transfer instructions.
Cash wires
Gifts of cash must be received via cash wire transfer into the UNC-Chapel Hill Bank of America account by 4 p.m. E.S.T. on Dec. 31, 2025. Please call 919-962-8189 or 919-962-3047 for more information and click here for transfer instructions.
In-person gifts
You may also hand deliver your check to the Office of University Development at 140 Friday Center Drive in Chapel Hill by 12 p.m. (noon) E.S.T. on Dec. 31, 2025. Please call us at 919-537-3818 before coming to the office so that we will be expecting you.

Firm Campaign
Please note that Firm Campaign gifts received on or before December 31 will count as participation in the 2025-26 Firm Campaign. However, 2025 tax deduction deadlines still apply.
