The Riddle family has long held a deep connection to the University of North Carolina, and their legacy continues to flourish as they dedicate themselves to serving their communities and advancing the legal profession. This multi-generational family of Tar Heels exemplifies the values instilled by UNC and demonstrates how alumni can drive positive change through service, innovation, and leadership.

Arden Riddle, a current second-year student at UNC School of Law, represents the newest generation of the Riddle family’s commitment to legal excellence. Following in the footsteps of her sister Alex, a Carolina Law graduate, Arden is already making strides in her legal education. Alex, meanwhile, works alongside her father, founding partner of the firm, at Riddle & Riddle Injury Lawyers, a North Carolina law firm dedicated to helping individuals and families that suffer serious injuries. In 2025, Alex was named partner. Gene Riddle and his twin brother, Dean Riddle, both graduated from UNC and roomed together for four years. Dean earned his law degree from UNC, while twin brother Gene earned his law degree from Wake Forest University. Even though Dean practices in Dallas, TX, both have built successful legal careers rooted in the values of advocacy and community service. Together, the Riddles illustrate the far-reaching influence of a UNC education, with each family member representing those in need of legal help while contributing to the betterment of their respective communities.

The Riddle family’s impact goes beyond traditional legal practice. At Riddle & Riddle, Gene and Alex are leveraging cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to modernize their firm and improve client outcomes. By adopting innovative tools, the firm has enhanced its efficiency, allowing attorneys to dedicate more time to client advocacy while reducing costs. This approach aligns closely with the mission of the UNC School of Law’s Institute for Innovation, which champions forward-thinking practices to prepare lawyers for the evolving demands of the profession.

“As a family, we’ve always been committed to serving the legal needs of others,” Gene Riddle said. “UNC has given us the tools and values to make a real difference in our clients’ lives and our communities.”

In recognition of all that Carolina Law has given to his family, in December, Gene’s law firm endowed a $50,000 scholarship in support of future graduates. His brother Dean has also contributed extensively to the UNC Law Foundation.

From personal injury law to technological transformation, the Riddles embody the enduring legacy of UNC graduates who lead with purpose and adapt to meet the challenges of a changing world. Whether mentoring young attorneys, embracing innovation, or giving back to their communities, the Riddle family showcases the power of a Carolina education in action. Their story serves as a reminder that the Tar Heel tradition is not just about individual success—it’s about making a difference in the lives of others.
