Client Counseling Team Wins Regional Competition
February 19, 2025
The UNC School of Law’s 2L team of Becca Feldman, Mary Lee, and Fikemi Fawehinmi claimed the regional championship at the American Bar Association Client Counseling Competition in Philadelphia, ranking first across three qualifying rounds and earning a place in the national finals in March.
This marks the second consecutive year Carolina Law has claimed the regional title, following last year’s championship by the 3L team of Emma Poole, William Reinert, and John Choi.
The competition challenged students to simulate initial law office consultations, with teams working through employment law scenarios to demonstrate their ability to build client rapport, elicit critical facts, and provide legal analysis. They deftly navigated complex client interactions, transforming classroom learning into powerful professional skills.
Professor Salinas coached the team, with Professor Hirsch supporting them by brainstorming employment law scenarios. The Holderness Board and Emily Shuman assisted with travel logistics to ensure the team’s successful participation.
The team will represent UNC School of Law at the national finals, competing against top teams from law schools across the country.
