Josh Starin

Adjunct Professor

Biography

Josh Starin is joining UNC School of Law as an adjunct professor for fall 2025 to teach LAW 213.1, Law of Nonprofit Organizations. Josh is an attorney at the Chapel Hill office of Schell Bray and is working in their Nonprofit and Tax Exempt Organizations practice group. In January, after an almost 13 year career, Josh voluntarily separated from the IRS Tax Exempt and Government Entities business operating division where he worked primarily in the Rulings and Agreements, Exempt Organizations unit. While there he was certified as an instructor by the United States Treasury in their programs as both a Virtual and In-Person Classroom Instructor. He taught groups of IRS agents with class sizes as small as 5-6 or as large as 600. Josh also prepared and delivered technical briefings to Senior Executives both in the IRS as well as in the Office of Chief Counsel. A Tar Heel undergraduate, he is excited to return to take that knowledge to the law school classroom.
