Teresa Artis joins the faculty as an adjunct Spring 2021. Artis has had several years of graduate school or law school teaching experience, most recently serving as an adjunct professor at Campbell Law School teaching Contracts I and II as well as Nonprofit Law. A media attorney for 30 years, she has provided legal and strategic counsel to local, national and global media organizations. She has particular expertise in structuring and negotiating licensing agreements across diverse technology platforms. Previous positions include being V. P. of Business Affairs at a Turner Broadcasting subsidiary in Atlanta, with extensive experience with acquiring and licensing content on cable, satellite and wireless platforms. In the internet space, Artis was V. P. of Licensing and Business Development at e-retailer Art.com. She also worked ten years at Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) in Raleigh, including her tenure as General Counsel. At CBC, she had legal and regulatory responsibility for nine radio and TV stations (including WRAL and Fox50), web and mobile entities, a satellite-services provider and a Triple-A baseball team. Prior to her media career, Artis was a banking associate at Kilpatrick Townsend in Atlanta. Artis currently provides counsel at Trans World Radio (TWR) which for over 65 years has distributed inspirational and educational content in over 275 languages to people in over 190 countries via broadcast, satellite, web and mobile platforms. Her work includes compliance matters and content production, acquisition and distribution issues between TWR, global content providers and global distribution partners. Also, she provides strategic counsel to global mission entities producing content for indigenous people in oral cultures. Artis is a former member of the UNC-TV Board of Trustees and currently serves on the governing boards of UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Rex Healthcare and WUNC-FM.
