Biography

Teresa Artis joined the faculty as an adjunct Spring 2021 teaching Media Law. Artis is also an adjunct professor at Campbell Law School where she has taught Contracts and Nonprofit Organizations Law. A media attorney for over 30 years, she has expertise in structuring and negotiating licensing agreements across diverse technology platforms. Previous positions include being V. P. of Business Affairs at a Turner Broadcasting subsidiary in Atlanta where she licensed content for cable, satellite and wireless distribution. In the internet space, Artis was V. P. of Licensing and Business Development at e-retailer Art.com. She also worked ten years at Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) in Raleigh including her tenure as General Counsel. At CBC, she had legal and regulatory responsibility for nine radio and TV stations (including WRAL and Fox50), internet and mobile entities, a satellite-services provider and the Durham Bulls Triple-A baseball team. Prior to her media career, Artis was a banking associate at Kilpatrick Townsend in Atlanta. Artis earned a B. A. degree, with Honors, in Economics and Public Policy from UNC-Chapel and earned J.D. and M.B.A. degrees respectively from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. Artis is also a former member of the boards of trustees of UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Rex Healthcare. Artis currently is in-house counsel at TWR, a global Christian content distributor. Founded in 1954, TWR uses its infrastructure of radio, satellite, internet and mobile media to distribute original and third-party inspirational, disaster and health-related content outside the U.S in over 275 languages to people in over 190 countries. Artis works with global leadership on strategic partnerships, productions, licensing, distribution and data privacy matters. She conducts in-person training in regional offices including the Netherlands, South Africa and Singapore. She also currently serves on the boards of WUNC-FM and the PBS NC Foundation.
