Carolina Law Admissions Policy

Admission to the UNC School of Law is competitive and applicants with the strongest records are given priority. Admissions decisions are based on all of the information revealed during a careful and thorough review of an applicant’s entire admissions file. Every file is carefully evaluated. No applicant is granted or denied admission exclusively on the basis of an LSAT score or grade-point average. Every applicant’s file is individually assessed on the basis of both quantifiable and qualitative criteria.

Assessment factors that influence whether an applicant will be offered admission include, but are not limited to, consideration of the applicant’s personal statements, letters of recommendation, LSAT score(s), transcript(s), resume, optional addenda, and the following interrelated factors:

– Applicant’s academic record, preparation, and likelihood of success;

– Individual achievement;

– Likelihood of contribution to the law school community and legal profession;

– Socioeconomic background and experience;

– Geographic background;

– Adapatibility and growth mindset;

– Ability to overcome obstacles and accept disappointment;

– First-generation status;

– Accountability and judgment.
