Meet the Class of 2027

The University of North Carolina School of Law has opened its doors to a new cohort of aspiring legal professionals. This fall, the incoming Class of 2027 brings together 181 talented individuals, carefully selected from a competitive pool of 2,622 applicants.

The class composition reflects a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experiences, with a near-even split between in-state and out-of-state students. North Carolina residents make up 49.72% of the class, while 50.28% come from beyond state borders, spanning 27 states, Washington D.C., the United Kingdom, and South Korea. These students represent 90 different colleges and universities and bring with them 54 unique undergraduate majors, creating a varied academic foundation that promises to enrich classroom discussions and bring multiple perspectives to legal studies.

Academically, the Class of 2027 continues to uphold Carolina Law’s tradition of excellence. With a median GPA of 3.85 and a median LSAT score of 167, these students have demonstrated their readiness for the rigors of legal education. The 75th percentile reaches an impressive 3.92 GPA and 168 LSAT score, while the 25th percentile maintains strong figures with a 3.75 GPA and 164 LSAT score.

The age range of the new students spans from 20 to 46 years old, with a median age of 23, reflecting a blend of recent graduates and those bringing additional life experience to their studies. The class comprises 50.8% women, 46.4% men, and 2.8% non-binary individuals.

With the arrival of the Class of 2027, Carolina Law reinforces its standing as one of the nation’s top public law schools, attracting exceptional students poised to make significant contributions in the years to come.
