Unrestricted Giving

Unrestricted giving to the UNC School of Law means immediate impact. When you give to unrestricted funds, your gift is used where it is needed the most, supporting the ever-changing needs of the institution. This flexibility creates an immediate impact for students, faculty, and the future of the school.

Why Unrestricted?

The law school has only three revenue streams: tuition and fees, state funding, and philanthropic gifts. Historically, state funding has been a major component of the Carolina Law budget, however, with shifting focus of state support, that has dramatically changed. As recently as 2009, UNC School of Law received 70% of its budget from the state. Today, that support is about 40% of the budget.

As state funding diminishes and law students face increased financial burdens, private philanthropy is the key to Carolina Law remaining an accessible and valued public institution. Dependable, flexible funding is imperative to the success of the school.
